This was a popular folksong of unknown origins, dating from before the NeoLuddite wars. It is the story of a tragic and brilliant inventor who built a girl out of clockwork and flowers to replace someone who was once dear to the inventor. The song structure seems to be written in the form of an annular composition, perhaps as a tribute to The Illiad.
